Basic Apple Sauce

  • 8 medium-sized Vermont apples
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (or to taste)
  1. Core and dice apples; place in saucepan, add water and salt, simmer until soft.
  2. Press through sieve or food mill; add cinnamon, salt, lemon juice and add sugar to taste; stir until dissolved.
  3. Serve hot or cold.
