Week 19 2025 Market Update
Current growing conditions overall are excellent we are seeing very few quality issues in any of the major commodities or growing areas. Berry, lettuce, tomato, and vegetable quality has been excellent.
Berries
Strawberries: The North Carolina Strawberry harvest is wrapping up in this week and MPG will transition to the California spring crop, which always produces the best berries of the year from the Salinas Watsonville region.
Blackberries and raspberries: Seeing improvement in supplies as the Baja region ramps up volumes
Blueberries: The past two weeks have brought rain and heat to the Georgia growing area, causing significant harvest challenges and supplier prorates
Citrus
Clementines: California harvest is in full swing; supply and quality are good for another few weeks
Navel Oranges: California fruit is abundant, and the quality is excellent
Lemons: Good supply and quality
Limes: Supplies are good
Grapes: The import Chilean deal is approaching the end, and it appears the Mexican harvest will be delayed. This could lead to elevated markets towards the end of the month
Apples: Storage crop apples are available. This year’s crop is smaller than last year's. Honeycrisp volume is down 30% year over year
Melons: Eastern melon is underway, quality on the watermelons so far has been good, the cantaloupe deal tends to bring varieties are very high in sugar content with shorter shelf life
Eastern Vegetables-
Green Cabbage: Good supply out of Florida and Georgia
Corn: Good supply out of Florida.
Green Beans: Georgia harvest has begun, and supply is increasing
Green Peppers: Good supply from Georgia
Cucumbers: Moderate supplies from Florida. There is limited volume as growers are just getting started and will remain low until later in the month
Zucchini and Yellow squash: Good supply in Georgia currently
Hothouse- Canada is harvesting supplies from Mexico are limited
Beefsteak Tomatoes – supplies have increased, production is strong
TOV –Excellent supplies. Great quality
Colored Peppers –Good supplies, quality is excellent
Hydro Cukes– Good supplies, quality is good
Lettuce and Leafy Greens: Harvest has transitioned to the Huron and Salinas regions, and the Spring deal is underway in those regions
Mango- Good supplies from Mexico
Pears: Import season is underway, supply is good
Potatoes: Well into the storage crop. Spring and Summer typically bring supplies with some cosmetic differences, including more air checks. This is caused by the natural release of air from the potato, does not affect the wholesomeness or quality of the product and is not considered a defect.
Tomatoes: Field grown
Romas: Good supply out of North Florida
Round Tomatoes: Good supply out of North Florida
Grape Tomatoes: Strong supply from Florida. Optimal weather has boosted yields.
