General Information:
The banana is a delicious and simple fruit and is the most popular tropical fruit. Inside a yellow peel is a sweet, white fruit.
Selection and Storage:
Select plump, firm bananas with no soft spots. Give yellow-green bananas a couple of days to ripen at room temperature. For quicker ripening, place bananes in a brown paper bag in a warm, dry area but not in direct sunlight. Ripened bananas (yellow with some spots) can be refrigerated for a couple of days. The peel will brown, but the banana will retain its flavor.
Preparation and Cooking:
Just peel and enjoy or use in recipes. If using bananas in salad, toss sliced bananas in pineapple juice to prevent browning.
